Project Overview

Bombshell Treat Bar is a woman-owned Metro Detroit business that believes life is too short not to make it jaw-droppingly sweet.

Owner Jill Kasle wanted a memorable brand that was simple and sophisticated, yet playful, and that would speak to the "kidult": an adult who likes doing or buying things meant for children. We took cues from the brands kidults flock to, like streetwear and toys. The result is a design system that flexes from understated to in-your-face, built from custom emojis, explosions of sprinkles, and bold messaging that keep it consistent without getting repetitive.

Where many competitors lean on product photography, Bombshell uses a custom illustration for every menu item, which makes the menu itself a bit of play.

Project Brief

  • Build an identity that speaks to both kids and adults

  • Balance real seriousness about quality ingredients and curated treats with a playful process and attitude

Project Challenges

  • Stand out in a crowded market of ice cream and sweet treats

  • COVID-19 upended the opening plan. The team pivoted quickly to delivery, so we expanded the messaging and illustration set to include popsicles, added package and customer experience design, and an e-commerce site.

Project Outcomes

The identity won a Creative Communication Award in Brand Identity in December 2020.
